Statement on the Urban Still Life Project:
Urban Still Life is an ongoing going project between collaborators Calder Kamin and Julie Malen that began in January 2010. Both artists sculpt animals inspired by those found dead in the urban environment to examine the universal dismissal of wildlife death caused by humans. The animals represented sculpturally are grouped by cause of death due to human impact. This documentation process yields a collection of empirical data supporting the theory that the human experience is not separate from nature.
